A Southern Italian Red Reasonable with a Cannelloni

We went for another Slimming World recipe tonight and this time we had Beef and Mushroom Cannelloni.  We drank a bottle of Colucci Copertino Riserva 2005, a Puglian wine from Sunday Times Wine Club.  Last time we had this wine was with Lasagne (see 6 October 2010).  This Italian red is predominantly made from Negroamaro.  With black fruits and an underlying earthiness it was good with the Cannelloni, but not outstanding.  There was not enough tanginess in the food to offset  a somewhat sharp edge to the wine.
