A Southern French Red Pairs Well with a Mediterranean Beef Stew

We found a Mediterranean Beef Stew recipe on the web with red wine, tomatoes and thyme.  We looked for a suitable red and chose Cabalié 2009 from the Sunday Times Wine Club.  This is a southern French red that combines the Carignan, Syrah and Grenache grapes.  It had a distinctive fruity, almost sweet flavour that blended well with the rich tomatoey and red wine sauce.
