We visited friends and our hostess served a Braised Neck of Lamb dish from Angela Hartnett’s “A Taste of Home”. Our host opened a bottle of Carlos Rodriguez Trigales NV, which is a Rioja-like Spanish red from Naked Wines. This was medium-bodied, smooth and with restrained strawberry flavours. A pleasant, if not particularly exciting match with the lamb.
We had brought some wine with us and opened a bottle of Don Cayetano Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 from the Sunday Times Wine Club. This medium-bodied Chilean red was full of blackcurrant fruit with a minty edge and complemented the lamb very well.
