We cooked one of our favourite Supercook recipes – Agneau aux Tomates, which is a French lamb stew cooked with fresh tomatoes. It is not a heavily-flavoured dish and I thought it would pair well with a medium-bodied French red. We tried a Caves Saint-Pierre Côtes-du-Rhone 2009 from Tesco. Nice wine on its own or with cheese, but the pairing made the wine taste unpleasantly sharp. We tried a Kelly Country Cabernet Sauvignon 2009 from the Sunday Times Wine Club. This blackberry-laden, smooth and rich Australian red was a much better pairing, but not perfect. I think we’ll go down the Rioja route with the leftovers.
