We finished the Daube from the previous evening (see 7th January) and found it had developed even more intense flavours. We had been waiting for a meal like this to try another bottle of Quinta Espirito Santo 2008 from the Sunday Times Wine Club. This is a rich, full-bodied Portuguese red blended from Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) and Castelao. When we last tried it we were disappointed with its pairing with a Steak dish (see 17th June 2011). This time we tasted blackberries with dark chocolate and coffee on the finish. We also noted a sweetness, tempered by a sharp black cherry edge and there was an affinity with the orange zest in the stew. The wine was a fine match with the meal.
