Last week my company PYC exhibited at the North Somerset Business Show and I managed to find some time to wander around to chat to fellow exhibitors. It was very pleasant to bump into Eric Tones of the local Lions Club. Their stand was promoting the Lion’s 5th Real Ale and Cider Festival and to whet one’s appetite they were dispensing samples of RCH Pitchfork ABV 4.3%, brewed just down the road in Hewish. This golden bitter with a hoppy, slightly sweet and fruity flavour was in excellent condition and very moreish.
I explained to Eric that I had thoroughly enjoyed their previous beer festivals that are held on the Beach Lawns right on Weston-super-Mare’s seafront. He told me that this year the Lions have arranged for a larger marquee and the event will be bigger and better than ever, with around 100 ales and ciders expected to be available. There will also be wines and soft drinks. Children will receive free drinks, non-alcoholic of course, with each adult purchase. There will also be live music each evening and on Sunday lunchtime and a great choice of food and other entertainment throughout.
Most importantly, the event will be supporting various good causes and there are opportunities for businesses to help these and promote themselves by sponsoring a barrel for just £80. Full details are available at the Festival website.
The 2012 Festival will be held from 27th to 29th July. Friday and Saturday opening hours are from 11.00 to 22.30. Entry is free up to 18.00 and just £3 after. Sunday’s session is from 11.00 to 17.00.
